Book vs movie
The best Yes by Lysa Terkeurst |
So about this book. I have to admit I was not sure I would really like this book. I was sure I would get something out of it, just was not sure I would like it. I mean really Lysa writes so many books and really fast. She uses a lot of the same examples and stories. I have read too many too fast of her books. I picked this book up this weekend to read. I was delightfully surprised. I liked it! It hit home almost immediately with being wise, growing in wisdom, insight and discernment. I mean really what women does not want all these things right? Today was no different, my friend's phone was blown up today with pictures of the pages. I sat in complete aww of how the Lord would take three totally different studies and weave them all together for me. I have sat and cried a river the last couple of days cut to the core of my sin. My choices and how they have effected everyone around me. I could almost sit and pull out all my highlighted stuff in this book and then compare it to the other studies and you would see just how alive scripture is today!
I did have to laugh as I have been reading about choices. How today's choices effect tomorrow. Lysa shares what she would say if she was asked to speak at a high school graduation. Someone please sign her up!!! So I have been reading all afternoon how we should go about making decisions. Her questions she says to ask:
- It feels thrilling to say yes to this now. But how will this yes feel two weeks, two months, and six months from now?
- Do any of these expectations that come from this yes feel forced or frantic?
- Could any part of this yes be tied to people pleasing and allowing that desire to skew my judgement of what's realistic and unrealistic?
- Which wise (older, grounded in God's Word, more experienced and more mature) people in my life think this is a good idea?
- Are there any facts I try to avoid or hide when discussing this with my wise advisors?
So I like these questions to ask before making a decision. I told my baby girl we would watch a movie tonight and she picked out Cheaper by The Dozen. This movie is great! It is funny! It shows exactly what Lysa talks about NOT doing. Of course it all ends well but really! They did not think about how this decision to move 4 hours away would feel in 2 weeks much less 6 months when the dad quits his job because NOONE is happy! I mean really! No true judgement of how their decisions would effect the family. They were total unrealistic - I have four kids, I could not imagine leaving my husband to work and support the family with me gone for two weeks. I know my hubby is amazing, I just can't see being gone that long and thinking all will go smooth at home, much less add in a new move, new school, new friends. The movie made me laugh and grateful that God would use a movie like this, time with my girls to show me how He makes all things work for Him. I love how He even had a Hollywood movie tie into His word tonight.
I am not finished with the book yet, as I am seeing how important it is to seek our Godly wisdom. To always have that person or people in our lives to walk through life together. Those people who can see the sin in our life or see the pot hole we are getting ready to fall in. We have to allow these people in our lives. We have to ask those in our lives to disciple us not with worldly wisdom, but with Godly wisdom. We all to easily think we know best. How often do we have our minds made up, our plan crafted, even before we tell a single person, let alone ask a single person.
I will leave you with Proverbs 2:1-11
The Value of Wisdom
Thank you Jesus for the Cross!!
